Curated Collections: Your Learning and Leadership Docents

Curated Collections by Learning at the Heart are your virtual docents. They guide you toward resources and sources that enhance your learning and leadership.

Hello Friends and Colleagues!

I trust you are off to a wonderful start to your new school year! With the first weeks behind us, I am excited to share with you the beginning of a new feature here on the website: Curated Collections.

I love the excitement of walking through museums and galleries, room by room. Crossing the threshold of each doorway is stepping toward a new discovery; a new collection of artifacts and art meticulously arranged to arouse curiosity, evoke emotion, prompt questions, and inspire imagination. Each room and exhibit is artfully designed to stand alone on a specific theme or concept. Taken together, the entire collection preserves and celebrates an important heritage.

Each individual Curated Collection here will be like visiting one room in a museum or gallery. It will be a collection of musings, sources, and resources on a specific topic. Taken together, the set of Curated Collections will be one place where you can stop in for a moment, looking for a quick insight, or where you can grab a cup of coffee and linger for as long as you would like. You will find the Curated Collections under “Resources” in the main menu.

Curated Collections can be quickly found under “Resources” in the main menu.

A guide to The Way We Worked, a Smithsonian Traveling Exhibition, reads, “Acting as a bridge between visitors and the exhibition, the docent is the catalyst for learning in the museum.” It is my hope that the Curated Collections shared here will be catalysts for both your learning and for your contributions. As they are introduced, I invite you to add your insights and ideas by commenting on the blog posts and participating in conversations within the Learning at the Heart group on Facebook. I can’t wait to see how this community joins together in the spirit of sharing our best ideas and supporting one another.

One of the most popular #WednesdayWonderings on the Facebook page near the end of last school year was, “What songs are in your professional learning playlist?” Several of us shared favorite titles that we like to play when we facilitate professional learning. So, the first posted Curated Collection is the “Professional Learning Playlist”. It truly has been curated from my own music library, songs I have heard at sessions I have attended as a participant, and recommendations from educators just like you. If you have other titles that you would add to the list, write them in the comments below. And watch for this week’s #WednesdayWondering which will expand on the idea of a professional learning playlist.
