#40: Reflections on 40%

100 Posts in 100 Days

“We do not learn from experience.

We learn from reflecting on experience.”

John Dewey

This is a quote we use often at our school.  In fact, this quote inspired what we call “Reflective Wednesdays”, dedicated time for reflective practice in teams on a fairly regular schedule.

This quote rings true as I look back on the last 40 (!!) days of writing and blogging.  Yes, 40% done!

With a collection of blog posts now, I’m looking back to notice & name and interpret what I’ve accomplished so far.

What it makes me think

My posts are a mix of memoir and present day events

This is the observation that made me think of the Dewey quote.  Writing the memoir-style posts are turning out to be much more challenging and time-consuming than writing the present day posts.  I often feel nostalgic as I complete those ones.

The present day ones seem to come much easier.  Maybe because they are so “fresh” in my mind; maybe because the lessons to be learned aren’t fully realized by me…yet.

My posts are a mix of beliefs, values, and practical tips

Some of my posts are distinct:  either they are about beliefs and values or they are about practical tips.  (Example:  Post 13 and Post 17)

More recently, though, I’ve been trying to make them into a combination.  This goes back to my rubric and my idea to write the “outside story” and the “inside story”. (Example:  Post 39)

That pattern is also reinforced by the number of comments and reactions I see on the various social media platforms.  The practical tips tend to generate more responses, so they are resonating with those who are reading.

Some days are more polished than other days

I feel this as I write, I know it when I set some versions to publish.  Some of what I’ve written is worthy of more thought, a bit more research, and the inclusion of some interesting links to support my thinking.  Right now, some days I simply need to publish.  I have some thinking to do about this because I think I want to keep posting after “100 Posts in 100 Days”, but I don’t know what kind of schedule or exact format that will take.

One more fun fact and thing that I’ve learned in this endeavor:  I had to purchase more Google storage!  😆

40 down, 60 to go!

And because this all started with “If I can meet my move goal for 297 days, I can write for 100 days”, it only seems right to share that I’ve now met my move goal for 337 days!   (See Post #1)
